Bio:

Arec was born and raised in Washington, DC. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Physics and Summa Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering. Arec completed an MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University, where he is currently a PhD Candidate researching safety in artificial intelligence and robotics.

At the Stanford Intelligent Systems Lab, Arec is improving ways in which AI systems quantify uncertainty about their environment to make safer decisions. At Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi, Arec worked on improving the decision-making of fully autonomous cars, ultimately validating his work on public roads. Arec is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, the group coordinator of the Stanford Amnesty International chapter, the treasurer of the Stanford Armenian Students Association, and a community assistant for the graduate student body.
